Mice


Although mainly a house dweller the house mouse is also found outdoors for all or part of the year. It is not found in sewers. There are many different types of mice, however, we can deal with all of them effectively.

Life Cycle - Life span is 8 to 12 months and sexual maturity is reached in six weeks. Litters are up to 8 offspring. There are 6 to 8 litters a year.


Moles


The mole is a member of the Insectivore order and is covered with black velvety hair. It is well adapted for burrowing with large spade-like forefeet turned permenantly outward for digging. The eyes are very small and hidden by fur, but well capabale of detecting light. There are no external ear flaps. Life Cycle - The breeding season lasts from Febuary to June and there is usually one litter per year. After a 4 week gestation period the young are born blind and bald. They leave the nest when they are 5 weeks old.


Rats


The common rat is widely distributed throughout urban and rural areas and inhabit both indoors and outdoor environments. The ship rat is now less common and mainly confined to port areas. It is found occasionally in some inland towns especially those linked to ports by canals. It only lives indoors and is rarely found in sewers.

Life Cycle - Life span is 9 to 18 months and sexual maturity is reached by 8 to 12 weeks. Litter size is between 8 to 10 and they produce up to 7 litters a year.


Squirrels


Grey squirrels appear to be friendly, however, they are classed as vermin and can cause a lot of damage. They gnaw through pipes and cables which can lead to fire and water damage.

Life Cycle - There are two breeding seasons in a year. First litters are born in Febuary and March after a gestation period of 45 days. The young are weened at 10 weeks old. Second litters are born in June or July. Litters average 3 to 4 young.
